Info: You’ve got to love this place! Portland has been my home since 1995 and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Yes, I fell in love with Oregon at first sight while driving around and getting a feel for Portland, the drive to the coast, Multnomah Falls, Crater Lake, Powell’s Book Store and so much more. But I truly called it home when my son, Ray, moved here a few years after me. Ray and his new bride, Kandace, are truly the sun in my sky all year ‘round. And with them settling in SE and me living in NW, I am having many opportunities to travel Portland and see our immense internal growth.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, I have much appreciation for our mild winters and blooming summers. It was the idea of an Urban Growth Boundary that first attracted me to Portland; unlike Cleveland, Portland doesn’t sprawl endlessly creating a need for long commutes to the city and robbing us of the ability to reach wilderness areas in a very short drive.
After Cleveland, I moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and wore mukluks from 1982 to 1995. Actually, St. Paul is a wonderful place to raise a family and absolutely Heaven if you are a skier or ice skater! And it’s sister city, Minneapolis, offers a world famous symphony, supports the arts big time and has the best shopping (Mall of America!). Actually, Portland and St. Paul are very similar with their lovely old neighborhoods, tree lined streets, coffee houses and cafes and more. We are all that, but without the sub zero temperatures. Sure, they have ten thousand lakes…but we have the ocean!
Portland people are lovers of the earth. We are so very aware of the delicate balance between nature and population growth. We can’t stop progress; families grow, people move here from other states (who wouldn’t?) but we do our best to be advocates of the earth. And I love Portland for that. My EcoBroker license has given me the tools I need to help my clients conserve energy and improve the quality of their lives at home, while helping to protect the environment.
So, this is who I am. A woman from the Midwest who visited Portland and fell in love with it. I embrace its philosophy and even its weirdness.
And the only other thing I have to say is, “Thank you Ray and Kandace, for making my website so awesome. As the Willamette Week said this summer, you are The Best of Web Designers in Portland! (that was a totally unsolicited ad)
